When you install QuickShadow Backup on a 64 bit operating system, you may see that the logs show something like this:

Running as 32 bit in WOW64 - Appears to be a 64 bit OS

This is nothing to be concerned about.

The QuickShadow Backup main program runs as a 32 bit application on all operating systems. The 64 bit versions of windows will happily run 32 bit applications. For this reason there is no 64-bit version of the main program.

QuicShadow Backup uses a number of separately loaded executable pieces of code called DLL’s. These handle the specific operating system variations, such as 32 or 64 bits, and variations between Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Internally, there are a set of about 10 DLLs, built for all the different operating system variants and for their specific purpose. Similarly there are a number of configuration files that vary between 32 and 64 bit operating systems, or between Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.

In all cases, the appropriate configuration files and DLLs are selected by the installer which figures out which operating system it is running on, and installs the appropriate mix of main program and DLL’s.

The message in the logs about the main program running as 32 bits on WOW64 is nothing to be concerned about. This message is used in the event of any request for support to provide specific information about the operating system being used.
